The Choice O’Clock™ pause works best when the timer is doing the work for you. Set it, put your phone down, and come back when it ends. Then choose.
Our dedicated Choice O’Clock™ app is currently in development. In the meantime, use your phone’s built-in timer. It works just as well.
Before physically reaching for a drink, open your phone timer.
Set it anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes depending on what you plan to do during the pause. Name it “Choice O’Clock” so it appears on screen when it goes off.
5 minutes is enough for quiet contemplation or a glass of water. If you are going to do something more absorbing, a short workout, a module on a learning app, a walk around the block, set it longer. The pause should fit what you are doing, not the other way around.
Put the phone down and do it. Do not check the timer.
When it goes off, choose. Either direction counts. The point is that it is a conscious decision, not a reflex.
Open your phone’s built-in Clock app, go to Timer, set it between 5 and 15 minutes, and name it “Choice O’Clock”. That is all you need.
